I made a late decision to go down after work Friday , so I didn't start fishing until about 9pm this was just after high water . My plan was to fish for 4 hours get some sleep then fish the next day . I had a couple of knocks on my first couple of casts , I thought this might be codling but didn't connect then it went quiet for an hour or so when my rod got a good wack and a 3lber confirmed my earlier thoughts this was on my shorter rod and in close . Another half hour goes by another wack same again close in. To cut the story short 4 hours fishing went on for 9hours !! and the shorter rod was getting wacked just about every cast the codling seemed to be having a feeding frenzy hitting the bait harder then normal and one of them even spat out 5 crabs ! I managed to find a snag at some point not to far out and this later cost me 3 good fish and tackle . I only landed a small fraction of the bites but it was a very crazy/entertaining night with a bit of cussin

Arrived just after low and Decided to make the long walk to the deeper water past the teeth . Arriving at the teeth i could see the surf went a long way up the bank the evening before so I thought I would follow it along to see if the sea had left anything of interest and keep me occupied on the long walk! As it happend I found the normal tennis balls and this fella flapping around And as you can see it was alive and kicking and went back fine ,which left me wondering how long can a fish stay alive out of water so had a little google and .... In a dutch study Herring , cod, whiting, sole, dab, and plaice can take up to 5hours to die and in some cases longer Now as for the fishing it was not the best of trips !! Although I did get a few different species which were Pout,Poor Cod,Whiting ,dogfish and Rockling. .Dropper rigs were working better for me with the sea conditions. You just know it's that time of year when the rockling arrive

We had are monthly match this weekend and being a rover we could fish where we liked along Chesil. Some decided to stay at the Portland end and some went to Abbotsbury I decided on a long walk from Abbotbury to the deeper water. Which did mean sacrificing about an hour of fishing time to get back for the weigh in on time but I thought it was worth a shot. We were all in contact with each other via phone calls to see how things were going and it was clear after the first couple of hours it was going to be a long evening with only a pout coming from the Abbotsbury end . As darkness arrived the whiting started to show up but not in any great number and many were under size .Two hours or so before high water I heard someone had a Pollock at the Portland end so I now needed a conger or better still a codling for a chance of  the pool prize so I started to put big peeler baits out as far as I could but nothing took any notice of them until right on high water when I had a nice drop back and

I had the Monday off work last week and decided on a very early start as high tide was at 5:40am which meant getting up at 2:30 am, the things we do for a fish ! Any i arrived at 4:30am to find only one other crazy fool on the beach it happened to be Tony a chap from are fishing club' Three Counties SAA ' .He hadn't had much luck with only a dog fish to show for his troubles .I didn't fare much better either apart from 4 nice sized whiting which i gave to tony as he was off early.I fished for a few more hours over high with just a couple of small whiting and poor cod to show then I decided to get a couple hours sleep and change venue. And I decided on west bexington in the hope of an early plaice ,but this was not to be as the whiting were even more prolific here with regular double shots of them and all very small so thing looking like they are starting to calm down on chesil
